How Do PLC Fiber Optic Splitters Work?
PLC stands for Planar Lightwave Circuit, PLC splitters are used to distribute or combine optical signals. Based on planar lightwave circuit technology, and with a small form factor and high reliability, it provides a low-cost light distribution solution in passive optical fiber access networks.
Why Do We Need A PLC Splitter?
PLC Splitters are employed in the passive optical network between the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) located communication company’s facility and the Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) located in end-users’ homes/offices. Fiber optic networks implementing BPON, GPON, EPON, 10G EPON, and 10G GPON technologies use PLC fiber optic splitters as optical light distribution devices.
Passive Optical Network (PON) splitters play an important role in Fiber to the Home (FTTH) networks by allowing a single passive optical network(PON) interface to be shared among many subscribers.
PLC Splitters have high-quality performance, such as low insertion loss, low PDL, high return loss and excellent uniformity over a wide wavelength range from 1260 nm to 1620 nm, and work in temperature from -40 to +75 Centigrade.
What Kinds Of PLC Splitters Are Available?
- Blockless PLC splitters
Blockless PLC fiber optic splitters are available with stainless steel tube packed, features a compact design. The input/output fibers could be 250um bare fibers with no fiber optic connectors terminated (also called Bare Fiber PLC Splitter) or 900um fibers with or without fiber optic connectors terminated.
- ABS box type PLC splitters
ABS box type PLC fiber optic splitter features a black plastic box package, the input/output fibers are ruggedized up to 3.0mm diameter with fiber optic connectors pre-terminated, more suitable for harsh environment installation.
- Cassette Type PLC Fiber Splitter
Cassette type PLC splitter is having miniature packaged PLC splitters packed in plug type plastic box or LGX fiber cassette, input/output ends of PLC splitter are pre-assembled with adapters on the cassette.
- Rackmount patch panel PLC splitter
Rackmount PLC fiber splitters are available with PLC splitters packed in fiber panels, the input/output ports are pre-assembled with adapters on the panel. They are standardly 19-inch rack mounted.
Where To Get PLC Splitter?
